80% of your ball flight direction is determined by face angle at impact.

We’ve learned that the face angle at impact is so important from millions of launch monitor recordings providing a huge amount of data.

So what tricks do we have up our sleeve to help ensure you have the best chance of squaring the club face at impact?

1. GET FITTED, EVERYTIME
If any of the following are wrong, then squaring the club face at impact becomes difficult.

And don’t think you’re not “good enough” for a fitting. Rather ironically, the less experienced you are, the less likely it will be that you can accommodate poorly fitted golf clubs.

2. OFFSET
An offset face, gives a fraction of a second longer to square the club face. Given how little time is involved in actual “impact”, fractions are important.

Some sets have progressive offset. That is more offset in the longer irons where squaring the club face is even more difficult.

3. FACE ANGLE
Some metalwoods come with the option to adjust the face angle. If we’re trying to help you square the face, rather than leaving it open at impact, then having the driver configured with a closed face angle will help.

4. HEEL WEIGHTING
Having weight moved from the toe to the heel will help the hands rotate the clubhead through impact. There’s a much better chance of the face squaring or even closing through impact.

Some metalwoods are designed with more weight in the heel and less in the toe. Others have adjustable weights to enable that result.
