Mastering par 3s
It’s never the same shot

Every time you stand on the tee box of a par 3 – even if it’s the same par 3 you’ve played countless times before – there is new information to take on board. The distance from tee to green is constant, but you also need to assess the conditions on the day and ask yourself a few important questions.

Note these two elements:

Then ask yourself these four questions:

“Where’s the trouble?”

“What’s the elevation?”

“Where have I got room for error?”

“How am I playing today?”

Once you’ve taken on board all this information, you’re in a much better position to make a shot decision. And when you do, make sure you take enough club. Many golfers take the club that gets them there on the perfect strike, but you want to take the club that goes the distance, even on an average strike.
