A recipe for fried egg success

Shots for all situations | Better golf & Coaching

Do fried egg lies feel like an automatic one-shot penalty? For a player of your calibre, they don’t have to! You have the skills; all you need is a game plan to navigate this sticky sand situation.

Alter your APPROACH

Fried egg lies are the result of shots which fall from great heights into bunkers with a lot of sand. You can’t control when they happen but you can control how you respond. You also need to appreciate that there are fundamental differences to how you approach a fried egg compared to a standard shot out the sand.

Starting with ball position, eye a spot in the middle of your stance.

Blend CONTROL with AGGRESSION

Set the face square; this incorporates more of the club’s leading edge into the shot which helps you get underneath the ball and dig it out.

Your follow through will be restricted, so to generate sufficient speed, hinge your wrists early during the takeaway and get steep on the backswing.

Use a bit of controlled aggression on the downswing and you have the ingredients to navigate fried eggs.
